Some are available over the counter, such as ranitidine (Zantax), cimetidine (Tagamet), famotidine (Pepcid) and nizatidine (Axid). If any of these medications can not relieve your heartburn, you can also try the pump inhibitors or PPIs, proton. These drugs reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach are omeprazole (Losec), the pantoprozole (Pantoloc), lansoprazole (Prevecid) and esomeprazole (Nexium). These drugs are expensive but are often effective while others are not. Some people also need treatment for stomach emptying as metoclopramide (Maxeran) or domperidone (Motilium) is also called agents of motility. Ask your doctor what drug is best for you.
