Acne

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Acne is a skin disease, common among adolescents, characterized by eruptions on the face, chest and back.

Sex

More common in boys than girls.

CAUSES

The oil glands of the skin are blocked for reasons unknown, but changes in sex hormones experienced by adolescents play an unequivocal role.
When fat is tight, it starts to become infected by bacteria normally present in the glands.
Acne is not caused by dirt or by masturbation, or by food.
The cleaning can help it, but sexual activity has no effect on it.

SYMPTOMS

It is characterized by the appearance of the following lesions (greater than mild to more severe) in the skin, usually on the cheeks, forehead and back:

Blackheads (black dots the size of the head of a pin)
Whiteheads (white dots similar to black)
Pustules (pus small lesions)
Cysts (larger swelling of the skin) and
Abscess (swollen glands in a small infected area containing pus), only in severe cases. (more…)
